MSC Cruise Lines in Collaboration with FCCA Donates School to the British Virgin Islands

At a ceremony held on November 6th, 2017, MSC Cruises (USA) Inc.’s Chairman, Mr. Rick Sasso officially handed over a semi-permanent 4,000 sq ft school facility to the Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith for use in the British Virgin Islands.

This donation was initially facilitated by Tortola Pier Park Ltd through Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) who has been working diligently with the cruise lines to provide much needed support for the Caribbean destinations that were impacted by Hurricane Irma and Maria. Through this partnership MSC Cruise Lines purchased and donated a semi-permanent structure and FCCA coordinated to have class room furniture and supplies provided for use by the students.

“We thank MSC Cruise lines for helping to ensure that there is continuity in the education sector. I know that this facility will assist the Ministry of Education and Culture in achieving its objective of ensuring that our children have continued access to quality education,” said Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith, Premier and Minister of Finance.

Mr. Rick Sasso, Chairman of MSC Cruises USA stated “It is not about what happened two months ago, it’s about how you’re going to move forward. We have now passed the adversity and it’s now time for us to look towards the bright future that we all have ahead of us. This donation is one of many ways we are working to set the industry standard to help those who need it most and we’re proud to utilize our global resources to assist, as the BVI works to recover and rebuild.”

Miami based Manufactures, Eventstar also donated their resources by providing representatives with the technical expertise to customize and build the structure. The newly constructed semi-permanent schooling facility will be used to house the Bregado Flax Educational Centre – Primary Division on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands.

The cruise lines along with the FCCA have worked hand in hand with the BVI over the last two months providing relief support for the destination. FCCA has also been instrumental in getting the word out through their marketing campaign that the Caribbean and in turn the BVI is still open for business and ready to once again welcome cruise passengers.

After every storm comes a beautiful story of hope, resilience, and strength. As the BVI regroup and rebuild, Tortola Pier Park will continue their story of growth. Get ready to once again experience Tortola Pier Park – the premier choice for shopping, dining and entertainment, for locals and visitors in the BVI! #ourstorycontinues
